Embedding fonts

When you send your files to RE:Print for printing, remember that you may have fonts installed on your computer that we don't have installed on the computers here at RE:Print.  Many programs will substitute another typeface if the original font isn't available, but sometimes parts of your text may simply disappear.  Even when a program substitutes fonts, the substituted fonts often aren't anything like the fonts you chose on your computer — and the substitutions can often result in a variety of undesirable formatting changes.

Some programs, such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, allow you to "embed" fonts in your files so they can be viewed and printed on another computer.  Not all fonts will embed properly, however.  For example, the feature in MS Word and PowerPoint allows you to embed Truetype fonts, but not Postscript fonts.

Whenever possible, prepare a short test file for RE:Print to evaluate before you spend hours formatting a document using fonts that may not embed properly.  Format a one- or two-page test file using all the fonts that you plan to use in your final document.  Embed the fonts in your file following the procedure for your software.

Remember to print your test file on your equipment so RE:Print can compare your sample printout with the result produced on our equipment.

Tech Tip:  Embedding fonts in your documents will not prevent reformatting due to differences in printer drivers.
